Cité des Arts, Chiraz

The last empress of Iran, Farah Diba-Pahlavi, commissioned Xenakis to build a large cultural complex (over 20,000 m2) in 1971. Several types of rooms for the visual and sound arts were planned, as well as centers for pedagogy and technological research on sound and image, playgrounds and open-air concerts, and a residence park for visiting artists and researchers. Certainly part of the Iranian monarchy’s desire to get closer to the West, this project has remained at an embryonic stage of conception.
