Nuit blanche at Philharmonie de Paris on October, 2nd : percussion and Xenakis with free access !

As part of the Sleepless Night of Paris, the Philharmonie will offer a big concert from 9pm to 5am dedicated to percussions. The entrance will be free!

The concert hall Pierre Boulez will welcome percussionists from all over the world.

Philharmonie’s presentation:

“From contemporary music to Balinese gamelan, Basque rhythmic polyphonies, experimental exchanges, and Japanese drums, percussion resounds in all its glory during an intensely striking night.

Performing works by Steve Reich, Iannis Xenakis and Gérard Grisey, the students of the Paris Conservatory percussion class will generate the most contemporary vibrations of this night full of colourful sounds. We will thus be able to meet a Balinese gamelan (a large instrumental ensemble composed of gongs, cymbals and metallophones), txalaparta players (an imposing Basque instrument, close to the African balafon) and taiko players (massive Japanese drums). Joey Baron and Robyn Schulkowsky, two essential names of the American experimental scene, also participate in this nocturnal cascade of rhythms, engaging in thrilling exchanges with two drums and various other percussions.
